The air swirled around them, and the portal way closed at their backs. Skellian looked around. “Looks like a cave or sumin’,” he said. Around them was a huge cavern of black stone, dripping with water and slime. Knotted weeds tangled around their feet as they walked.
“Sure is,” Magdalen said. “This is the cave of Mount Celliend. Welcome to Ellenbor, you weary travelers you.”
McShoots whistled. “I ain’t ever seen anything of this size before. This place is massive! Wait, what exactly is Ellenbor?”
Magdalen sighed. “Ellenbor, my dear Joe, is a great city in the continent of Acielmor. One of the finest lands to grace this wretched world.”
The three emerged from the cave mouth, and Skell and Joe placed their hands over their eyes to cover the sun. Suddenly, Skellian whirled to his right, and unsheathed his sword. “Get behind me!” he bellowed. Before him, a group of three Chaosspawn. Demonic, white-skinned creatures with huge fangs. One leaped for Skellian, but he ducked, swinging upwards with the sword, cleaving the demon in two. The corpse rolled along the ground to the foot of Joe McShoots.
“Holy bloody dingleberry!” McShoots yelled, looking down at the purple blood on his boot. “Skell! Hang on!” McShoots unsheathed his sword, and ran to join Skellian. Each of them would take a Chaosspawn. Joe McShoots slid along the ground on his legs, flying straight past one of the Chaosspawn, and took a swing at the demons’ legs. The Chaosspawn leaped into the air, over Joe McShoots, and landed behind him. The creature lashed out with a clawed hand and scratched Joe’s face, sending him down to the ground.
“Lad!” Skellian yelled. The other Chaosspawn was between him and McShoots. Skellian, instead of waiting for the creature before him to pounce, instead lunged forward, both hands gripped on the sword hilt, and cut diagonally down the creatures body, from shoulder to torso. The top half of it slid away and thudded on the ground.
“Skell! Fucking shit! Help!” The Chaosspawn before McShoots had hold of him now, and began to open his large jaws, probably to bite McShoots head clean off.
Skellian ran as fast as he could, but he knew it wouldn’t be fast enough. From the side of him came a feminine yawn, and then a large portal began to open next to the Chaosspawn. Magdalen pushed out her hand into the air, and the creature flew into the portal, just before it closed.
Skellian dropped his sword to the ground. “Wait. You could have just done that the whole time! Why’d you wait so damn long, woman?”
Magdalen stood, looking at her nails. “I just wanted to see you two fight, is all.”
Joe McShoots stood up, the breath nearly gone from him. “What, in the name of Skell’s hairy ballsack, were those things?”
Magdalen smiled. “Those, young man, were Chaosspawn. A disgusting race of creatures who’ve been around since the dawn of creation. Why those blasted Naract decided to create them, is anyone’s guess. Didn’t think we’d see any in Acielmor though. Odd…”
Skellian sheathed his sword, then spat. “Any idea why they’re after us?”
Magdalen tapped her leg with her hand. “Could have followed us through. They could have been sent by somebody. Your guess is as good as mine, Skell.”
